FALLOW DEER HUNTING

FALLOW DEER OUTFITTER

Fallow deer are from the European and Asian Mediterranean and are not native to the North American continent but have been introduced in several areas. There are some states that do have some wild herds that have escaped from captivity or were set loose.

Fallow deer are seen on plateaus, brush lands, and woodlands. They feed on grasses, young leaves, cereals, berries, and acorns. The male, or buck, have palmate antlers and they are larger than the females or doe. They are of a wide variety of color, from white, which is rare, to almost black. The chestnut colored fallow deer has white spots similar to a an axis deer. Their rump area has a black border around paler rump hair. Fallow deer typically weigh from 80-220 pounds. Fallow deer can run faster than 25mph and can jump up in excess of six feet. Their life span is up to 20 years but those in the wild will not live as long due to predators.

Fallow deer communicate through smells, body language (will stand rigid and upright when disturbed), and vocalizations (barking, grunting, bleating). They breed in the fall, peaking in October.  Browse our big game outfitters who offer fallow deer hunts.
