BROWN BEAR HUNTING

BROWN BEAR OUTFITTER

The brown bear is a large bear that can be found  across North America, Europe, and Asia. There are two subspecies of brown bear in North America; the coastal brown bear and the inland grizzly bear.

Grizzly bears hibernate 5-8 months a year and the females give birth while in hibernation. They can have 1-3 cubs that stay with their mother for the next 2-3 years.  Grizzly bears are usually solitary in nature and only come together during mating season and when food is abundant in an area, like salmon streams. The population of grizzly bear in North America is about 30,000.

Their hair-tip color gives them the name grizzly. They have a distinctive hump on their shoulders and claws the size of a human’s fingers. The grizzly bear's color may vary from a cream color to black, but most are a dark brown. They can weigh up more than 800 pounds and have a lifespan more than 20 years. Grizzly bears eat both vegetation and animals and live in forests, meadows, and the tundra. They can run 30 mph or faster and have an excellent sense of smell, good memories, and are good swimmers.

Coastal brown bears can be twice the size of an inland grizzly bear because of their diet. They are highly adaptable and can live in montane pine forests, temperate rainforest, prairie, and arid scrubland.  The largest subspcies is the Kodiak Brown Bear followed by the Kamatchka Brown Bear.  These bears can weigh 350 to 1,500 pounds.
